    David,

Here is a link to the Greek Catholic records of Sacurov which includes Lomnica.

If you know the parents of John Kaszarda born in 1873, you will be able to scroll through the 1869 census of Lomnicza (link attached) and find additional information.  The church records of Sacurov are woefully incomplete.

    Dear David,

Here is a lot more information about my grandfather, John Kasarda, his wife and his siblings.  Now that you have confirmed the town, my goal is to find the church records to find his birth and the birth of all his siblings in that town..

Wife Mary Sorokacz (I already found all her birth records)

    Born 1883
    Emigrated 12-12-1901
    Died 1958 in Adena, Ohio

Siblings of John Kasarda that I am trying to find their birth records

    Mary Kasarda (married Petrillo)

    Born 1-14-1889
    Died 3-1-1982 in Dillonvale

    Died 2-25-1962 Byesville, Ohio

    Elizabeth Kasarda (married Chorney)

    Born 3-6-1893
    Died 1-10-1959 Akron, Ohio

    Joseph Kasarda

    Born 5-15-1887
    Emigrated 1898

    Other Brothers:

    Andrew Kasarda (died Byesville)

Not sure about 1800s.  Today Liestany population is about 267 persons, Slovak ethnicity (NOT Hungarian).  Local church is Roman Catholic, located in Rudno.

Info from CD:  Hungarian Village Finder, Atlas, and Gazetteer for the Kingdom of Hungary.

Also, do you think this was a Carpatho Rusyn town?  Is there a breakdown of the ethnicity of the town in around 1880?

The town was called LOMNICZA from 1808 to 1863.  Has had several other names through the past 200 years.  It is LOMNICA today, joined with another city LIESTANY.  All in Slovakia.
