They were considering a change in the Citizenship law.  I don’t know if it has passed or in what form. There were proposed changes that would allow citizenship to those with grandparents who were born in Slovakia.  There was a cutoff year.

Do you happen to know how this person found an attorney to assist with the application process?

I am not aware of change in the law but do know of a American citizen who sought Slovak citizenship and after a very long involved process acquired it. He now lives in Slovakia and is very happy .

Has anyone whose Rusyn ancestors came from present-day Slovakia looked into the possibility of acquiring Slovak citizenship? Thanks to a recent change in the law, it is apparently now possible to be granted Slovak citizenship by descent up to the 3rd generation (i.e., you have a parent, grandparent or even great-grandparent who was a Czechoslovak or Slovak citizen at one time). I read a couple of articles estimating that 800,000 people in the United States could be eligible.
