    Hi,

    So great to get your reply. Did you know your grandparents? Have you done research on there villages or ancestry? I never knew my grandparents as they died before my birth.  My grandfather came in the early 1900's to Dunmore, PA and other families followed. They were  boykos  and  he came from the highlands living in present day Verkovina, Ukraine. Years later my grandmother joined him bringing her 2 daughters with her. My aunts I knew well, however, when I asked questions about there homeland no one wanted to talk about it!!!! It took years of questioning before I started to get answers to my questions.

    My maternal grandfather emigrated to the United States when he was 18 from a village in or near a Carpathian Mountain pass. The village is Lupkow, now in the southeastern border area of Poland, near the Slovakian border. His name was Timko Smolnycki.  He emigrated in the late 1800s. He was Lemko-Rusyn.  He died in 1965 at the age of 76. Once he settled in Syracuse, NY, he married Anna Bodnar, a Slovak who was born in the United States.

       I am happy to make the first posting to what will be a fabulous message board. 

    I would like to begin with my surnames - Pohanish (Povkhanych, Pohanics), Straskulic (Sztraskulich), Ehnot, Ivaskovich and Yonko. Anyone related. Add your names and lets get this board going.
