Thanks Bill!  I am new to all of this and unfortunately do not have great information as my grandparents have passed and my aunts and uncles memories are fading!  I will check out your strategy and websites.

I can attest to the value of the site www.iabsi.com, be it for research in Slovakia or elsewhere. It has been very helpful in my research. So much information. I love to do the research though I may go hours and days with no results. And then I hit coal!!!

Back in 2000, I had just returned from a trip to Zboj, Slovakia to meet my cousins and learn about my heritage.  I was obsessively inquisitive and learned a tremendous amount about genealogy research and record keeping for this area.

The most important thing I learned was that the method I used for digging up information about my ancestors and their villages was dead-ringer useful for most anyone researching in Slovakia.   I spent ten years digging up sources, consulting experts and novices, residents and emigrants and digging around in many countries.

I chose to do a brain dump, so I created a web site that does all that.   I can confidently say, 20 years later, the strategy still works.   I figured there is no money to be made on it, so I'll give it away for free.   All you have to do is roll up your sleeves and do the dirty work I propose.   It will get you there.   But not in 10 or 20 hours.  It will take you hundreds of hours.   If you're a cherry-picker, please move along, there is nothing here for you.   I won't do your research for you, but I will give you tips and guidance.

I have not really updated it in 10 years, but now feel driven to do so.   Some links are now broken. and  need a little repair.  Much has changed online in terms of data availability.   It's a lot easier than when I started 20 years ago with microfiche and microfilm.

But have confidence, my pages will make your job easier, assuming you are tenacious and serious about this.
