The C-RS Genealogy committee along with the webmaster and administrator are  working together  to update and  enhance the usability of the website. Your comments and suggestions are being considered. Know the work is in progress.

Thank you for your advice.  The Forum's web administrator is looking into them. I understand it may be a gadget with wild apricot and may or may not be able to be modified on our end.

I have been using Control F since Windows 1.0 came out in 1986.  (I did computer hardware design from 1980 to retirement).

What I'm talking about is an automated search of the contents of the entire forum.  All the other forums (dozens) that I belong to, have the ability to do this.

This forum appears to be a Gadget within the Wild Apricot product suite.  I read through the documentation.   This is a very primitive forum.   Like a feature set from 20 years ago.  The web master can add a site search gadget, but that's no different than a Google site search.   https://gethelp.wildapricot.com/en/articles/429

Can we ask the webmaster for this feature?

    Thanks!

Sharon:  The CTRL + F function is for a single web page.  The definition of a web page can be different than the page visible on a computer screen.

Genealogy researchers need a global search for a given database.  Search should include ALL text in the given database.  For C-RS, I hope it will include the blog + member database.  If you recall, I suggested members be able to have a box in their profile to add surnames, villages, etc. for others to search.

I also think it would be a GREAT idea to include which additional genealogy organizations a person belongs to and which ones they have Family Trees (name of company and name of tree).  This avoids unnecessary work for individuals to share this information with their collaborators or potential collaborators.

For instance GEDmatch.com now includes the Facebook LEMKO group in their database.  I especially encourage letting C-RS members post (if they want) whether they have taken a DNA test, and if so where and what type.  DNA has revolutionized genealogy research.  I know from personal experience.

I'm very excited about the C-RS effort thus far.

For an individual pages, use CTRL + F to open a search box at bottom left of screen.  Type in a word of interest.  Turns red if not word on page.  Provides number of "hits" if the work of interest is contained in a page.  VERY helpful for spreadsheet type data with lots of columns, rows, numbers and names.

We are going to accumulate  a lot of good knowledge that is  going to get lost in here.....

By the way, the font that the webmaster selected for this website and forum are very difficult to read.   The letters are very thin  and appear grey.  Love to see that fixed.   Thanks!
