PRESENTS: DR. Martina Vasil

A first generation American, Dr. Martina Vasil, will discuss her Rusyn and Slovak family history and her personal research to learn more about her roots through music.

Martina Vasil is an Assistant Professor of Music Education at the University of Kentucky and is Division Coordinator for the Department of Music Education and Music Therapy. She also continues to teach children PreK–6 at Lexington Montessori School. Her interest in and knowledge of Slovak music stems from her own heritage; her parents immigrated to the United States from Czechoslovakia in 1980.

In this talk you will learn about musical characteristics and

instruments from Eastern Slovakia (Rusyn and Slovak). Also you will

learn to access relevant online resources.
