Lived in 5 Countries and Never Moved – A Tale of a Carpatho-Rusyn Family

Presented by Karen Varian
January 18, 2023
7:30-9:00 pm Eastern Time

Our ancestors who remained in the homeland saw many changes during the 20th Century. World War 1, World War 2, and government changes affected their living conditions, education, work, religion, language, and self-identity. Through the experiences of the fictitious Carpatho-Rusyn family of “Ivan Rusinko,” who, from 1914 to today, experienced life in 5 countries and never moved, you will see how history changed the course of their lives and may have changed those of your ancestors.

Karen Varian is the current President of the Rusin Association of Minnesota, a Carpatho-Rusyn Society Trustee, and a member of the Carpatho-Rusyn Consortium of North America. Karen has held leadership roles in the Friends of the Immigration History Research Center and Archives and the Carpatho-Rusyn Consortium of North America. As a North American representative, she has attended the World Congress of Rusyns in Budapest, Hungary; Prešov, Slovakia; Uzhhorod, Ukraine, and Stará L’ubovňa, Slovakia.
