Christine’s Note: In this recurring column I’ll share information about Carpatho-Rusyn books. Some will be books you might already be familiar with, and some you might not. Either way, we hope you enjoy these recommendations.

Our first feature is With Their Backs to the Mountains: A History of Carpathian Rus’ and Carpatho-Rusyns by Dr. Paul Robert Magocsi. This book, which covers the history of the Rusyn homeland from the earliest settlements all the way up to modern times, may be familiar to you. However, you may not realize that this book is the basis for Magocsi’s Rusyn History class at the annual Studium Carpatho-Ruthenorum in Prešov, Slovakia. If you can’t attend the Studium, want to dig into our history a little deeper, or just want to brush up on some information, this book is a great resource.
