Experience Rusyn Church Slavonic

Whether you remember from the past or are so young you never had this opportunity, please join us.

Very Reverend Nicholas Ferencz, PhD and Professor Jerry Jumba invite you to attend a Divine Liturgy at St. Michael's Orthodox Church in Rankin PA at 8:00 AM Saturday May 18th.  2nd generation Americans, Fr. Nik and Jerry are a rare combination of priest and cantor with significant experience with our language.

St. Michael's is a 5 minute drive for visitors attending events in celebrating the Carpatho-Rusyn Society's 25th Anniversary.  The first C-RS activity that day is the meet and greet brunch from 9 AM to 11 AM.

By the middle of the 20th century, Carpatho-Rusyns had founded 141 churches in Western Pennsylvania.  Only 5 have well-preserved interiors.  St. Michael's is the only one remaining in the Pittsburgh region.  It is one of the three churches on the Rusyn Church history bus tour.  Rankin and Munhall are separated by a river, but share much of the same history.  The steel mill complex was located on both sides of the river.  If you stood on the Rankin bridge in the 1930's, you would have seen 7 Rusyn churches within 2 miles.

The first meeting of the 8 C-RS founders took place in St. Michael's church hall.  The Liturgy will be offered in remembrance of all C-RS members who have passed in these 25 years.

146 Third Avenue, Rankin PA 15104  (not 3rd Street which is in Braddock which is the next town to the east)
